Dario Robleto appointed as first Artist-at-Large at Northwestern University's McCormick School of Engineering and the Block Museum of Art
In Spring 2018 the McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science and the Block Museum of Art will host the artist Dario Robleto at Northwestern to launch a new Artist-at-Large Program. The Program will join other activities organized by McCormick that are part of its ongoing Art and Engineering Initiative. The Artist-at-Large Program will bring contemporary artists to campus for in-depth exchanges with faculty and students.

Dario Robleto to hold workshop with media historian Patrick Feaster at Northwestern University on historical sound
On April 26th, artist Dario Robleto and media historian Patrick Feaster will give an in-depth behind-the-scenes look at their collaborations and experiments to date, offering a window into the technical, conceptual and emotional possibilities of engaging historical media across arts and sciences. Students will have an opportunity to try their own hands at using custom software Feaster has designed for extracting audio from images, interpreted either as spectrograms or waveforms, as well as for manipulating audio through such techniques as “melodization.”

Mobile EEG data acquired from Dario Robleto's exhibition, The Boundary of Life Is Quietly Crossed, to be published on IEEE Dataport
Visitors from the museum were invited to participate by donning an EEG cap and exploring Dario Robleto’s installation, Boundary of Life is Quietly Crossed.
A total of 431 museum visitors participated in the experiments (208 males/223 females; age range 6-81 years). Among these, 134 (77 males/53 females; age range 15-77 years) had reliable EEG with appropriate tracking information for segmenting the data by art piece. The methods for tracking and annotating the subjects’ data during the experiment is described in detail in Cruz-Garza et all.

Dario Robleto is a participating artist in Prospect.4: The Lotus in Spite of the Swamp
Opening Weekend is November 18, 2017, the exhibitions run through February 25th, 2018. Curated by Prospect.4 Artistic Director Trevor Schoonmaker, this is the fourth iteration of a citywide exhibition. While participating artists will present a broad range of international perspectives, the works made and selected seek to resonate with the city of New Orleans—aesthetically, musically, culturally, spiritually, historically and environmentally. P.4 will include 73 artists who deal with the legacy of colonialism and feelings of displacement. Dario’s work will be exhibited at the Old US Mint, 400 Esplanade Ave., New Orleans, LA 70116.
